Looking for Christmas piano music that’s easy enough for your beginning students but still sounds like the holiday songs they know and love?
Christmas piano lead sheets are a fun way to introduce beginners to playing familiar holiday favorites while exploring chords and simple left-hand accompaniments. And here’s the best part: students don’t need to know how to play chords yet to get started!
I’ve created 20 Christmas piano lead sheet arrangements with multiple versions of each song, including simplified options for students who have never played chords before.
Whether your students are just starting to explore moving fifths or are ready for something a little more challenging, these arrangements offer plenty of options for different skill levels.
What Are Piano Lead Sheets?
If you haven’t used lead sheets in your piano lessons before, they’re a little different from traditional sheet music.
Instead of having both hands written out on the grand staff, a lead sheet typically includes the melody written on the treble staff with chord symbols above it. The pianist plays the written melody with the right hand and uses the chord symbols to create their own left-hand accompaniment.

Sounds like something for intermediate students, right?
Not necessarily!
Even beginning piano students can learn to play simple chord accompaniments. In fact, lead sheets are a wonderful way to introduce students to chords, progressions, and playing beyond the printed page.
And Christmas songs are especially fun for this because students already recognize the melodies!
Christmas Lead Sheets for Different Skill Levels
One of the challenges of choosing Christmas piano music is finding arrangements that are just right for each student.
That’s why I’ve included multiple versions of each Christmas song, with different left-hand options.
- 2-note chords: A simplified introduction to playing chords, perfect for beginners who aren’t quite ready for full triads.
- 3-note chords: Great for students who are familiar with the I-IV-V7 chords and ready to practice playing full chord shapes.
- Moving fifths: An alternative left-hand accompaniment pattern that gives students another way to use the harmony.

You’ll also find variations in the number of chords used. Some arrangements use just two or three familiar chords, while more advanced versions include six to eight different chords.
The songs are arranged in C major and G major (or their relative minor keys, A minor and E minor).
And you don’t have to figure out how to introduce each piece from scratch! These printable resources include chord reference charts, student warm-ups, practice challenges, and a suggested learning path to help students work through the music.

Look for Traditional Christmas Sheet Music?
If you’re looking for traditionally-notated sheet music (as opposed to chord-based lead sheet notation), fear not!
I have lots of Christmas sheet music available from beginner to intermediate levels. Click any link to see a preview of the different versions and the chords used for each song.

But if you’re here for the lead sheets, proceed, Friend!
