So you have your piano studio website set up.  Good for you!  What’s next?

Well, if you stop there the sad truth is that likely no one will see that website you worked so hard to create.

But the good news is, if you properly optimize your piano studio website, anyone who heads to a search engine such as Google to look for a local piano teacher could find you!

What is SEO?

As a piano teacher, wouldn’t it be great if piano students came to you?  What if you didn’t have to hit the proverbial streets searching for students to fill your schedule?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It means helping search engines, like Google, show your piano studio website to customers who would be interested in your services.

What does SEO have to do with my Piano Studio Website?

No matter how well-designed your website is, if Google doesn’t know it exists or doesn’t know who your ideal customer is, the right people will never find you.

By optimizing your piano studio website for Google search, you’re telling Google who you are, and who your ideal customer is so Google can match you up!

Good SEO is the difference between no one finding your website, and lots of people seeing it at the top of their search results.

Before We Get Started

This SEO strategy assumes you already have your piano studio website set up in Wix.

Use Local Words in the Copy of your Piano Studio Website

This article will help you optimize your as a local piano studio.  If you’re an online music teacher, some of these tips may still apply, but we’re going to focus on attracting local students for an in-person piano lesson studio.

Your first step will be to brainstorm local keywords your ideal customers might be searching for.

Just imagine you are a parent of an eager, young would-be musician residing in your town.  You don’t know of any piano teachers personally, so you sit down at your desk to do some research.

What would you type into the Google search bar to start your quest for the perfect local piano teacher?

Make a list relevant to your services and your area.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Piano lessons [city name]
  • Piano lessons near me
  • Piano lessons nearby
  • [city name] piano lessons
  • Piano lessons [zip code]
  • Piano teacher [city name]
  • Piano teacher in [neighborhood]
  • How much do piano lessons cost in [city name]?

You get the idea.  Hang onto this list.  I’ll show you where to plug in these keywords in the next section.

Homepage Optimization

Select a title from the choices that looks best to you.

Enter a meta description for your homepage.

What is a meta description?  This is the short paragraph that will appear below the page title in Google search results giving potential customers a preview of what the page will contain.

Your meta description should read like a paragraph but also contain keyword phrases so Google can match your website with terms people are searching for.

Also include your business name in your homepage meta description.

Connect to Google Search Console

Google Search Console is an analytics tool that will help you see how your website is performing in Google search and help you further optimize it in the future.

Add Alt Text to any Images

If your homepage has any images, add an alt text

Alt text is designed to describe in words what is depicted in an image for those who cannot see.

However, alt text contents are also used by Google to understand what is contained on a webpage.

So, by adding an alt text to all images on your website, you’re helping Google to further understand your website and who it’s for.

Repeat These Steps For All Pages

Make sure each page of your website has been optimized in these ways:

  1. Page Title
  2. Page Meta Description
  3. Alt Text for all images

Vary Your Keywords

Use variations of your main keywords throughout the site.

For example, on a page all about your piano lesson services, perhaps you could use the phrase “private piano lessons” instead of just “piano lessons.”

Maybe on another page you use “professional piano teacher” instead of just “piano teacher.”

And perhaps you use “piano instruction” instead of “piano lessons” on another page.

By hitting more keywords and keyword variations, you’re more likely to show up in a Google search for people who type their query in a slightly different way.

And the less frequently searched phrases will allow you a better chance of ranking higher on the search page as a new website because there is less competition.

Link Pages to Each Other

All of the pages on your website should link to another page on your website.  Google loves this internal web of links!

For instance, your homepage could link to your “About Lessons” page.

Your “About Lessons” page could link to your “Contact Us” page.

And your “Contact Us” page could link back to the homepage.

The more you link from page to page, the better (as long as it’s a helpful and logical link button).

Fix SEO Issues

Once back on your dashboard, pay attention to Wix alerts on your SEO page.

Fix any issues Wix flags in red.

Read any recommendations Wix has for you.

And complete any SEO tasks Wix suggests if they make sense for your website.

Final SEO Advice

Google is really smart these days!  Gone are the days when keyword stuffing got you right to the top of the Google search results.

At the end of the day, your website needs to be helpful and readable for the humans who are looking for your services!

If you can throw in some keywords here and there to optimize your chances of being found, by all means, do it!  But don’t sacrifice a great website by over optimizing for search.

Google also pays attention to how users interact with a website.  They can tell when a human lands on your site and is dissatisfied with what they find.

So, priority one is to create the most user-friendly and helpful piano studio website you can.
