Back to school season is the perfect time to refresh your lesson plans and add a little extra fun to your piano lessons or music classes. My Back to School Music Bingo sets are designed to get your students excited about learning from day one! Whether you’re reviewing note values, practicing note names, or drilling intervals, these games make it easy to reinforce core music theory skills while keeping students fully engaged.

I’ve created three versions of Back to School Music Bingo—covering rhythm, notes on the staff, and music intervals—so you can pick the perfect match for your class or studio. Each printable set is low-prep and teacher-friendly, with unique bingo boards and teacher calling lists included. And if you want to try it out first, I’ve got a free sample of each version of Music Bingo waiting for you!

Back to School Rhythm Music Bingo Game

Back to School Music Bingo - Rhythm, Note Values, Rest Values. The Tattooed Piano Teacher.

First, my best-selling music game of all time–Rhythm Bingo!

Rhythm Bingo is a wonderful way to engage the youngest of music students because they can successfully play Level 1 without fully comprehending how to read music.

With 3 Levels, you can print the version best for your student or group of students, even differentiating within the same classroom.

Each level includes 6 unique bingo boards so a group of students can play the game together.

Instructions for printing, preparing and playing are included. Teacher call lists are also included.

Level 1 of Rhythm Bingo

Level 1 includes:

  • Picture
  • Phrase
  • Rhythm

This level is appropriate for any age student. Teachers can use the bingo boards in various ways to get students tapping and speaking rhythms, even before they fully memorize all of the note and rest values.

Back to School Rhythm Bingo includes just one rhythm with a pair of eighth notes making it a perfect choice for beginners.

Level 2 of Rhythm Bingo

Level 2 includes:

  • Picture
  • Rhythm

By leaving off the Back to School word or phrase, students can use the pictures as hints, but their going to need to use the rhythms as well to confirm they have the right square. Level 2 of this music bingo game is appropriate for Primer or Elementary students who are still working on interpreting note and rest values into rhythms and need the little bit of a hint to match up the rhythms they are hearing.

Level 3 of Rhythm Bingo

Level 3 includes:

  • Just the Rhythm

No picture. No words. Just the rhythm!

Level 3 is for your older students, perhaps Late Elementary to Intermediate. They will enjoy the challenge of having to listen very closely to each rhythm to figure out which square is being announced by the teacher.

Back to School Rhythm Music Bingo Game comes in 3 Difficulty Levels

Teachers Can Also Differentiate

Beyond the 3 Levels available in the Rhythm Bingo set, teachers can experiment to find the most helpful version of bingo for their students.

Try starting with an easier level to get the hang of it, and then switch boards to the next level up.

Or give different boards to different students within a group depending on their music knowledge and level.

When calling out rhythms, the teacher can also make things easier or harder for students depending on the challenge level needed. Speak each rhythm with it’s corresponding Back to School phrase and you’ll give a big hint to the students listening. On the other hand, tap or clap each rhythm only (or speak in rhythm syllables such as ta ta ti-ti) for more of a challenge. A student could then raise their hand to guess, “Was that notebook?”

Playing Traditional Bingo

Here’s how it works…

  1. Print a color Rhythm Bingo board for each student participating.
  2. Teacher calls out a rhythmic Back to School phrase to a metronome (or taps or claps)
  3. Students find the corresponding square and cover it
  4. The first student to get 4 squares covered in a row or all 4 corners calls out “Bingo.” They win the round.

Playing “Color-A-Square” Bingo

Whether you have a big chunk of time to fill with this game, you have really antsy & artsy students, or you just want to save on colored ink, Back to School Music Bingo sets all come in color and Black & White.

Print the Black & White boards instead of the color boards to play Color-A-Square Bingo!

It’s simple…

  1. Print a black and white bingo board for each student participating.
  2. Provide each student with markers, crayons or colored pencils.
  3. Teacher calls out rhythms as above.
  4. Students find the corresponding square and color in the picture.
  5. First student to get four squares in a row colored (or all 4 corners) wins the round.

Back to School Music Note Bingo Game

Back to School Music Note Bingo 6 Levels. the tattooed piano teacher. music bingo.

Back to School Music Note Bingo uses a familiar game to review notes on the staff. In this version of bingo, the teacher will call out a note’s description (Treble Line F) and each student will find and cover the matching note.

Not only does Music Note Bingo challenge students to recognize individual notes on the staff, it also tests their knowledge of treble vs bass clef and line notes vs space notes.

Beginning students can benefit from concentrating on just a handful of relevant notes they are working on currently. More advanced students will enjoy the challenge of reviewing all notes on the staff or even focusing on ledger line notes.

6 Levels of Back to School Music Note Bingo

Music Note Bingo sets come with 6 Levels to choose from.

The Levels of Note Bingo are:

  •  Level 1: Only the 5 notes of the Middle C Position (Treble Clef Middle C-D-E-F-G)
  •  Level 2: Only the 5 notes of the Middle C Position (Bass Clef Middle C-B-A-G-F
  •  Level 3: Only the 5 notes of the Bass C Scale (Bass C3-D-E-F-G)
  •  Level 4: Only the 5 notes of the Treble C Scale (Treble C5-D-E-F-G)
  •  Level 5: All lines & spaces of the Treble & Bass Clef
  •  Level 6: Only ledge line notes (Above & Below both Treble & Bass Clef)

Each level includes 6 unique bingo boards so a group of students can play the game together.

Instructions for printing, preparing and playing are included. Teacher call lists are also included.

How to Play Back to School Note Bingo

For Levels 1-4, the teacher will call out a school supply picture plus a note name (Backpack F). There are more than one of each note on the board, so students will need to find the correct picture + the correct note.

For Level 5-6, the teacher will call out just a note description (Bass Line G). Students will look over the whole board to find the square matching the description called out.

Back to School Music Intervals Bingo Game

Back to School Music Bingo Intervals on the Staff. 4 Levels. The Tattooed Piano Teacher.

I also created a version of Music Bingo to review harmonic music intervals on the staff! Like my other bingo games, in Interval Bingo, the teacher calls out an interval description (Apple Bass 3rd) and each student finds the corresponding interval square.

The fun, colorful Back to School pictures make this game appealing to all ages. And students pride themselves on being the first to spot the interval called out, honing their interval-spotting skills. I find that this game really gets students accustomed to recognizing intervals by their shape on the staff, rather than counting out the notes in between.

Interval Bingo sets come with teacher instructions and call lists as well.

Levels of Back to School Music Interval Bingo

There are 4 levels to choose from in each Music Interval Bingo game set.

The 4 Levels are:

  • Level 1: Only Steps & Skips on the staff
  • Level 2: 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths on the staff
  • Level 3: 5ths, 6ths, 7ths, and octaves on the staff
  • Level 4: All intervals (2nds through octaves) on the staff

Level 1 works great with students who have just been introduced to notes on the staff. They may not even know the note names yet, but they can play Interval Bingo! This game will help them identify steps vs skips as well as Treble vs Bass Clef.

The other levels will challenge students to recognize interval shapes on the staff as they compete for a bingo!

  2. Provide each student with a handful of bingo chips, erasers, candy, or other small object to cover squares.

  4. Students take turns finding the square of their choice with that picture on it. They then call out the interval they see. (Student is more challenged as they need to name the interval themselves.)
  5. All students find the called out interval and cover that square.
  6. The first student to cover 5 squares in a row (or all 4 corners) yells “Bingo” and wins the round.
