“No Assembly Required” Christmas Gifts for Piano Students
In this category of gift ideas, we’ll emphasize the most stress-free gift-giving experience for you, the teacher.
There gifts are “buy and hand over.” No need to make or assemble or over-complicate anything.
You can wrap these gifts or add a note before giving to your piano students, but honestly, with these gift, you don’t have to!
1. A Christmas Book (Sheet Music) as a Gift
You know your student could use a book of Christmas songs for the upcoming recital and for adding a little holiday spirit to December lessons anyways. Why not gift this book to the family?
The trick here is to let the student and family know that this is a gift, so they can appreciate the gesture and so they aren’t confused on when and how to pay for the additional book.
You can let the family know this is a gift in a few different ways:
- Wrap it and/or put a bow on it and give it to the student at the end of the last lesson before Thanksgiving break (or earlier if you’d like)
- Take a picture of the student and the book by the piano or of you, the student, and the book by the tree and attach it in a gratitude email to the family
- Write a personal note to the student in the front cover (show the student so they don’t miss it

3. Music Ornaments
A classic Christmas gift idea for piano students and something they can enjoy for years to come.
Personalized keepsake Christmas ornaments are not a cheap option if you have a big studio, therefore this may not be an every-year gift idea.
However, these are such a special keepsake and the epitome of “just buy and give” that you may want to consider this option for Christmas gifts for your piano students every few years.
Amazon sells many cheap music ornaments in bulk. Be cautious when ordering these. Some of them are very low quality and paper thin. Often they come with flimsy pieces of string you have to tie on yourself, and I’ve found typos on them as well! These cheap ornaments may work as an add-on to a treat bag or more substantial gift, but likely will not work as a stand-alone gift for your piano students.
That being said, you can find some fun musical ornaments for as little as $0.36 per ornament!

4. Snowman Soup (Snowman Sonata) Christmas Gifts for Piano Students
You may have spotted this cute student gift trend known as “Snowman Soup.” Basically, it’s the ingredients for a peppermint hot chocolate packaged as a melting snowman with a cute poem.
I’ve reimagined this trend as “Snowman Sonata.” The same ingredients now encourage students build a three-movement Sonata (hot chocolate).

I’ve often put together gift sets for my recital performers with food allergies. These gift sets work great for spring recitals or Christmas gifts for your students

Those of us who are parents ourselves know the pain of people giving our kids endless cheap, plastic junk that piles up in our home. The amount of factory-made items that just end up in the landfill every year is a problem.
If you’d like to skip the junk this year, here are some gift ideas for piano students that will either be used in a more longterm functional way, recycled, or consumed (for the most part).

It’s simple, it’s predictable, but my students always love receiving a bag of goodies.
And I made sure there are coveted favorite name brand candies included!
Some of the favorites requested year after year by my students are Reese’s and Rolos, but I also have some students who aren’t into chocolate so much and they love the fruity and sour stuff!

11. Christmas Theory Activity Booklet for Piano Students
I love this one as an after-recital reward, or a before-break gift, or even a Christmas party favor.
Like the lesson coupons, it’s simply paper! But it contains eight fill-in-the-blank note-naming challenges for students to complete over holiday break. Each fill-in-the-blank page reveals a cute and clever Christmas-themed poem.

12. January Note-a-Day Mini Book – Gift for Piano Students
On the same vein as the theory activity booklet, the Note-a-Day Mini Books have students reveal a fun music-themed, seasonal poem at the end of the book. Students name one note per day for a full month and certain days serve as a code to fill in a blank at the back of the mini book.
I have these mini books for every book, but for the sake of a Christmas gift idea, I suggest gifting each student with a January Note-a-Day Mini Book which encourages them to name a note per day starting on January 1st.
