Looking for some fun and fresh ideas for Halloween music games to use with your piano students?
In my piano studio, we love to celebrate the current season with fun music game breaks. Lately I’ve been busy creating some new music games with a Halloween theme.
In this blog post, I’m sharing 5 Halloween music games that you can use in your piano studio or music classroom. And, yes, there is a FREE game…so read on!

Spooky Candy Lane Board Game
The first of five Halloween music games is my Spooky Candy Lane Board Game!
This game has quickly become a favorite in my piano studio. It seems to appeal to all ages, even those tricky middle schoolers.
I created three variations of this Halloween music game:
- Intervals Spooky Candy Lane
- Half Steps/Whole Steps Spooky Candy Lane
- Notes on the Staff Spooky Candy Lane
Intervals Spooky Candy Lane
This version of the game reinforces students’ abilities to “count” intervals on the staff or keys, as well as reviewing recognition of intervals on the staff.
A common mistake students make when first learning intervals is to over-count when measuring the interval between two notes.
This game will help students remember to “count the note you’re on as ONE” just as they should on the staff.
There are three levels of Intervals Spooky Candy Lane:
- Steps vs Skips
- 2nds, 3rds, 4ths & 5ths
- 6ths, 7ths & octaves
All levels includes cards with harmonic and melodic intervals.
The game is completely customizable to work with any student, from beginners to intermediate.
Half Steps & Whole Steps Spooky Candy Lane
The half steps and whole steps version uses the same game board as the intervals version. The cards for this version feature harmonic and melodic half steps and whole steps.
Using this game is a [forgive the pun] game-changer for students as they are first learning half steps and whole steps.
By identifying half steps and whole steps either on the piano keys or on the staff, this version of the game is also customizable for various levels.
The two levels of Half Step/Whole Step Spooky Candy Lane are:
- On the piano keys
- On the staff
Notes Spooky Candy Lane
To review notes on the staff, I created a different game board with letters in the circles. This version plays more like the traditional Candy Land game.
With the notes version of the game, students may encounter “double note” cards (just like the double color cards in Candy Land). The game gets interesting when players start jumping leaps and bounds ahead!
And with all version of the game, there are special cards that send the player to a specific space (either forward or backward). This also helps reinforce the different between sharps, flats and naturals.
Spooky Candy Lane BUNDLE
Can’t decide which version to try? I’ve bundled the three versions together for a discounted price!
You can buy any of the individual versions for $5.00, or buy the bundle for $12.00.
Halloween Rhythm Bingo
My second of five Halloween music games is Halloween Rhythm Bingo!
Bingo games are a go-to for me because everyone already knows how to play bingo, and no matter their age, everyone seems to enjoy it!
This Halloween Rhythm Bingo game reviews basic note values:
- Quarter Notes & Rests
- Half Notes & Rests
- Dotted Half Notes
- Whole Notes
- Pairs of Eighth Notes
The game comes with three levels included:
- Level 1: shows rhythm, phrase & picture
- Level 2: shows rhythm & picture (no words)
- Level 3: shows rhythm only
The three levels make differentiation with two different-leveled students super easy!

The third of five Halloween music games is Halloween Music Theory Puzzles.
